I’ve got a tale to sing
My harp will play for you alone
Full of longing every string
My love, my only charming love
Why must you go away
So far away o’er seven seas
To follow our good king

Another story has been told
Of fate and treachery
Oh why my love must you watch me
And my village captured be
We played so cheerful by the pond
Our hearts filled with delight
And now you sit on your fine horse
While I lose my liberty

A vision came up to my mind
Of a soldier on his horse
A proud roman officer
In rage he raised his sword
The sound of metal in the air

With all these painful images
